If you live anywhere in eastern Colorado, this book was written for you. If you live somewhere else, well then you might get something out of it if you happen to ever want to visit eastern Colorado and enjoy hiking.
This book isn’t so much a travel guide, as it is backyard guide for people living in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies. Alan Apt has 30 years of experience roaming the more than 150 hiking trails he describes here, so he’s definitely a valuable resource.
I’ts more conversational than many guidebooks. It has the standards you expect like distance, difficulty, available facilities, etc. I would have preferred some color photography instead of only black & white, but it’s better to make the book affordable.
There are more “Afoot & Afield* books from Wilderness Press, so feel free to check them out to see if there are any guides for where you might be traveling.
